"0 Find, 1 Hide" cachers in CP

Postby addisonbr » Fri Jan 08, 2010 12:46 pm

I've noticed a recent phenomenon in Central Park. The last couple of caches to be listed there were initial hides placed by folks with zero finds. The "hunter gtech" cache already earned its own thread after it was retracted: viewtopic.php?f=17&t=488

Now there's a new cache that was published this morning in CP called Reach for the Sky (GC22RGY). I ran out this morning and had myself quite an adventure - ultimately getting yelled at by a park ranger for climbing a tree to get to the cache (a bison tube about 10-15 feet above the ground). Thankfully I managed to keep geocaching out of the conversation and I don't think she ever saw the container.

But I think this cache may be a problem. Maybe not on the same level as hiding an ammo can on the Brooklyn Bridge, but if the CPC decides to shut down geocaching because people are listing caches in trees the CPC doesn't want people climbing, I'll lose my mind.

Did you let NYA know about this cache? It's only a matter of time until someone gets tagged with a very large fine.

I agree, no finds and one hide seems odd. Especially when they insinuate they are familiar with caching in the area.

NYA clearly knows. This cache has been archived!

Only because of the OP's FTF post about his issues with the rangers and CPC. What really surprises me is that the hider makes in his/her discription like he/she has cached before ("This is a type of hide that I haven't seen in this area"). It's funny how NYA determines what's OK or not around here.......see the thread about Staten island and you'll know what I mean.

Almost makes you think the hider was an experienced cacher using a sock puppet account.

That would seem to be unassailable...

i just assumed it was a cacher who chose to organize their hides with a second account. i don't see anything wrong with that, its something done by respected members of the caching community over in queens for example.

the cacher in question can't have too much experience, however, otherwise they would have noticed the several other almost identical hides in the area. there's even one just like it elsewhere in CP...
