Re: Whereigo

... on my Treo as an adult. I totally dig on puzzle hunts. Have designed two of them for the munchkins' school with another coming this spring. John, where are you seeing the info about a NY kickoff?

Re: Whereigo

... enthusiasm for the Wherigo concept has definitely worn off in the last day or two as I've looked a little closer. I haven't seen anything so far where the ratio of "fun" to "technical mumbo-jumbo, limitations and bugs" is quite high enough yet. But I'll check back in a few ...

Re: GPSr and Software Help

... a 60CSx, and one of my biggest problems with it is zooming in on an cache area in the city and getting overwhelmed by nonsense icons showing me where I can get a bite to eat, take a nap, buy a purse, etc. It's New York City, I get it, there are lots of businesses nearby. I have not figured out ...

Re: old cache still alive!

... sensitivity to their competition seems to vary over time. As recently as a few weeks or months ago I recall reading a thread on the main forums where someone had discovered a filter that deleted mail sent through the GC system if it contained the name of one of their competitors. That filter ...

Archivals vs. Retractions

... NY Admin seems to be going a step beyond archiving and is retracting it or otherwise eliminating it from geocaching.com entirely. A few examples where I've seen this: Rock and Roll (GC19FHX) / Handy Relief (GC19NF1) - two caches that were placed on DOT bridges, retracted entirely High in Morningside ...

Re: OReviewer taking over for Pofe?

The above is completely true other than "through the area a lot" is not that much anymore and no where near as much as my mother would like... I bet most people know how that is. :D :D I hear that. Just out of curiosity, did "the above" also include the speculation ...

Re: Metro NY Icon

... that your cache page is in HTML, it will need you to be more explicit about line breaks. So as you're typing up your description, any place where you would normally hit the return key, type: <br> Which is the HTML code for a line break. If you want to start a new paragraph, where you would ...

Re: Cache Placement Etiquette

They're still supporting .kml generation, just not the dynamic network .kml function - where as you scroll around, GE queries the groundspeak database and shows you the nearby caches.

Re: Inconspicuous-ness

... than attempted secrecy... I don't think we're as clever as we think we are, if people are actually watching us. I heard a caching podcast once where someone described how he led a muggle to believe that he worked for the city and that his GPSr was a municipal measuring device of some sort or ...

Re: New York Yankees retired #s series

... hard, most of the time was taken up by transit to and from GZ, and occasionally by trying to wait out muggles. At least a few of them are in spots where there might literally be a muggle right on top of the cache for quite some time. At least once or twice I had to give up and go home and come ...

Mammut caches in NYC

... multi-cache (although that geocache was active at the time of the Mammut contest). Also, interestingly / coincidentally, it's extremely close to where another foreign-based caching game container was hidden - a "ciste" was once located in or among the same staircase as the Mammut container ...

Re: The Necessity of Signing the Log

... within the spirit of the game, I am just glad people are enjoying my hides. As far as not having a pen, I watched a documentary about geocaching where a guy proudly recounted a time that he forgot a pen so he pricked his finger and signed in blood. Seriously, I'd rather forgive a forgotten pen ...

Re: Geocaching Attribute Symbols

Interesting. I know that groundspeak originally incorporated the attributes that ClayJar had worked up, but I'm not sure where ClayJar got them from - if he made them up, adapted them from public domain works, or what.

Re: Challenges - Thoughts?

Regular caching is you go to a specific place and find a specific thing. Locationless caching was describe a thing, and you post the coordinates where you found one. An example might be "Statues of Dogs". Then you go to Balto in Central Park and take a reading, and post those coordinates ...
