"Meet Someone New" is gone :(

... initial waypoint is listed in LA. For those interested in a similar concept, check out Marvelous Muttontown Preserve , about 20 miles away in Long Island. It's a starting point for a similar NYC / LA cooperation idea. The NY stages are maintained by mmacgown, and the LA stages are maintained by ...

Re: 2009 Metro GC Awards!

Congrats all! "It is an honor just to be nominated!" We were in very good company.

This will be a good list to work from in choosing caches to prioritize. Heck, what am I saying, we're going to hopefully grab the whole island anyway. :D

Re: The War of Light is on!

... wild for so few caches, and Randall's is just too nice a spot to leave "open". I was actually more worried about "hogging" the island to myself (btw... Cully, the north end is open). And part of me wanted to see what would happen. Would there be a mad dash of cachers clawing ...

Re: The War of Light is on!

... these caches on the first day, I read Gerk's question with interest, and my answer is actually a combination of COA's and addsionbr's. Randall's Island is indeed a remote location for me, as I have access only to public transportation and my own "foot-mobile." I do have to say, if only ...

Re: The War of Light is on!

... I was close to zero percent to get any FTFs on the series regardless, because my days of rushing to get the car out for something "off the island" are pretty much behind me. If it had been me, I'd've published them a few days apart. Not out of "fairness", but just because ...

Re: The War of Light is on!

... afternoon, and she was on foot the whole time... people had plenty of time to get to them before her, or hit the ones at the north end of the island while she was at the south... don't hate just because you didn't get out of bed in time.

Re: Coyote in Central Park

Wow! This stuff is amazing Gerk!

How the heck did a coyote manage to make it to Central Park? At least with birds I can picture the mechanism. But I can't even figure out how a coyote would make it on the island. My buddy figures someone was raising it in his apartment and let it go...

Re: Your neighborhood in 1924

... like a "time machine Google Earth" Really liked seeing how "empty" the northeast Bronx, eastern Queens, and some of Staten Island (though it wasn't as undeveloped as I expected) was. Farms in the boros!

Re: Your neighborhood in 1924

... from Riverdale. And you can see the remnants of Hilltop Stadium where NY Presbyterian Hospital now stands. Also, You can see Randall's & Wards Islands when they were separated. Rikers Island looks like it might have housed just a handful of prisoners at the time.

Re: Visiting from SC

... Cloisters, why not also go to Inwood Hill Park, several caches now there too and probably the most "un-Manhattan-ish" place on the whole island (partially because it's at the northernmost tip). It's too bad the 4.5 star terrain cache isn't there anymore (go to it anyway, here's the archived ...
