Re: Geocoin trouble

... logged into some of my caches, I've found that what Merge ran into isn't that uncommon - sometimes people will go two, three, four weeks or more before logging that they picked up a coin. I can't really explain it, except that vacationing cachers sometimes wait until they are back home to log ...

Re: Good GPSr for Schools?

... sending the kids to the Carousel, then to the Balto statue, and then to look for a temporary "geocache" I had placed a couple of hours before. We also taught the kids to mark their positions, and they recorded several of their own points of interest during their outing. We're assembling ...

Re: Metro NY Geocaching Society Geocoins!

... I'm guessing we'll be comfortable enough to send the order even if we fall a little short of that. (One important piece of information I left out before - we don't have the kind of PayPal account that can easily accept credit-card funded transfers, so we can only take payments that are either ...

Weird Publication Glitch

... that wouldn't be possible because you can't even access a cache page until after it has been published, so you couldn't add it to your watchlist before the note is published. But because the notifications got held up for a day, anyone who watched the cache in the interim got emailed the solution ...

Re: Cache Placement Etiquette

... of people who have no problems with the game evolving as technology advances, as it has over the last decade or so. Google Maps didn't even exist before 2005; just because groundspeak may not believe that Google Maps counts as an acceptable way to play the game doesn't mean that I have to agree. ...

Re: Cache Placement Etiquette

... haven't gotten any pushback. But it's an observation I've heard from others, that NYA has shown an increased interest in understanding the puzzles before publication... I don't really mind it, all things considered, if it raises the likelihood that an error will be caught.

Re: August 22- Proto-Picnic (GC1TWM8)

... ... I'm guessing that it should just be a matter of logging the event at the 400th (i.e. if I'm at 399 by Friday, just log Saturday's event before any finds, or in my other scenario immediately above, log 2 caches, then the event, etc.). This is exactly right. For caches logged on the same ...

Re: CBS Geocaching Interview - Need Volunteer(s)!!

... well. Gerk's Lantern caches on Ward's Island might not be a bad choice. Pill Popper in Morningside would be fun, for someone who hasn't found it before. As much as I love the cache, I don't think I'd be eager to show them Crossroads of the World... the recent terrorism plots in Times Square make ...

Re: GPX -- Converting Geocaches to Waypoints

... They can be very annoying, when you don't really need them. I think so. Probably the easiest way is to upload the waypoints to a software tool before sending them along to your GPS. GSAK is by far the dominant choice, but Garmin has a default product that came with my map CDs that works well ...

Re: December 14th! - Hobby

... in mentioning that Cully's presentation was great! He nailed it - good slides, great Cliff's Notes overview of caching. At one point Cully put up before and after photos of a particularly good camo job - the crowd's audible gasp at the second photo was worth the price of admission alone.

I've played in DASH before, and competed in similar events like it on the West Coast, and it is a lot of fun. This spring, I'm running / hosting the NYC edition of the ...

The best advice I can give you is to approach your local reviewer with the situation and present your case - BEFORE you actually submit the cache for approval.
