Not Signing the Logbook

... I would allow him to log the cache despite not physically logging in. I haven't responded and haven't seen the photos yet, so I don't know if he actually found the correct spot or not. I'm debating how to handle this. On the one hand, I am a believer that part of the game is to physically sign ...

Re: Pocket Query Tutorial?

I don't know for sure if there is a limit, but I use this trick all the time and have never run into any problems. I think you're totally in the clear unless you actually generate the .GPX file.

Re: Columbia University new story

From the start the journalists seemed very respectful of the idea of caching, even seemed to think it was actually cool (as opposed to "what are these weird people doing" vibe that so many articles/documentaries/etc. are infected with). The first time I spoke with ...

Re: Check you cache logs

I guess that log takes some of the guesswork out of it! I was bored so I flipped through his finds and it actually looks like he also hit NYC a couple of years ago, although he just signed his name in the online logs back then. No idea if he was armchair caching in those days ...

He thought it would be great so he contacted the authorities about unarchiving the cache for him so ...

Re: Visiting NY from Oz (28 Sep - 15 Oct)

... forum here - we don't have an independent site the way you Aussies do (yes, I am jealous). As far as a venue... I may have to defer to folks who actually have more socially interesting social lives than me (but I would be happy to take you to a kickin' nursery school class coffee). Maybe PJ Clarke's? ...

Re: Puzzle Preparedness

... caches, being able to work on those puzzles on rainy days, sleepless nights, or even downtime at work keeps me connected to caching when I can't actually be out there. I agree with both. I (obviously) like puzzle caches, and I like both puzzles that can be solved in the field and those that can ...

Re: Do you think Opencaching is actually bad for Groundspeak

Speaking of geocaching competitors, why would a hider list a cache on, say, terracaching? Or navicaching? Or whatever? Is there some advantage of using an alternate site. I'll be mixing NC and TC a bit here. When the services first popped up, they mostly promised a couple of things. One was freedom...

Re: Do you think Opencaching is actually bad for Groundspeak

What I do find curious is that GS is notorious for cutting off threads about competitors. PathTags? TerrorCaching? Locked quickly. The opencaching thread is going strong, with moderators and reviewers chiming in. That is bizarre! So. I foresee a buyout coming soon to a sport/hobby that you enjoy. I...

Re: Do you think Opencaching is actually bad for Groundspeak

So. I foresee a buyout coming soon to a sport/hobby that you enjoy. Do you think a secret deal may already be in place? Ugh. I hope they don't ruin the site. OC's site may look pretty at first glance, but it's all facade and no substance. Plus the Bing maps do suck as has been mentioned before. Hat...

Re: Challenges - Thoughts?

... I just don't get it. They're plowing all of their resources into trying to be some sort of other kind of social media site. Did anyone ever actually ask for souvenirs? And these challenges are just a hot mess. There are lots of crappily thought-out location-based games out there, I guess ...

Re: Challenges - Thoughts?

I think the problem is that groundspeak likes to keep everything a secret until they actually spring it on people. Then they are surprised that people don't like it as much as groundspeak is telling them they should like it. Souvenirs are a great example. If you go ...
