Changes to GC.com

I noticed that the site was down for a while yesterday, and I came across this post by a groundspeak employee listing some new changes that just got rolled out. In case anyone is interested: We updated the site today with a fairly substantial ...

Re: Coin Poll

... a better idea if we need to make that one last push. (One quick note - we planned to make the antique gold finish available only to Metro members, while anyone can order the antique silver. There is no price difference as long as we order at least 100 (of the 250 total) in each finish. As it stands ...

Re: Metro NY Geocaching Society Geocoins!

... not send payments, nor make withdrawals. A clever trick on PayPal's part really. "The bank that only accepts deposits." I worked for a while to see if there was some sort of workaround where I could avoid linking anyone's personal financial information to the account, but ultimately ...

Re: 2010 Metro GC Award Nominees!

... Respite (because it's just the greatest spot bar none), Blue Trail #14 (because it was my first, and you should always remember your first), and while some might find it odd, Manhattan Rocks! (because it's in the most unlikely of spots, and magicsteve is a madman with all that geological info). ...

Re: New Wherigo Cache in Central Park

The Whereigo can be completed while pursuing the Bridges & Arches ... it sounds like you will have more than one GPS unit ... if you monitor the B&A locations as you pursue the WIG you shouldn't have too much backtracking ... but ...

Re: Puzzle Preparedness

... - but I am aware that it takes place. The puzzles stay up, of course, after the event. We have not participated yet, but it sounds like fun. And while we're talking about puzzles, a group of puzzlers from down south recently snagged a couple of ours ... and based on their logs they logged 50 ...

Re: I broke my poor 60CSx

... up her 60CSx for caching or navigating. And she, like me, has used all three... If we lived a bit closer I would let you test drive mine for a while ... so maybe you can get your hands on a local one to try. The repair job is quite bit less than a new Oregon I think.

Re: 1 Million!

... ... but doesn't that number refer to active caches in the system now? So I think that the 1 millionth cache of all time was registered a while back. Or am I reading that wrong? In any event that is quite a stat! Thanks for bringing it to our attention. The last time I looked it was around ...

Re: 1 Million!

The 1,000,000 cache was published a while ago (in 2008, I believe). Now, there are 1,000,000 active caches. To find any cache copy/paste this into your url: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?ID=1000000 Where it says ID=1000000, ...

Re: Caches disappearing

A similar theme happened in Los Angeles a while back. Trackables went missing at a very high rate ... I noticed that many were last seen after a certain cacher with just a handful of finds logged his visit. And many of his logs were filled with ...

Re: Garmin Colorado series

I was in DC this past week, and while I was walking around playing with my GPSr, a guy approached and asked if I had Colorado and if I would recommend it for caching. Had to disappoint him with my humble 60CSx. 8-)

Why I haven't cached in a while...

I am easily sidetracked and lured away from geocaching by fun athletic activities. Last year it was kayaking, this year I got into rock climbing. It all started at a fun geoevent in CT held by professional climbers where Peeves and I were introduced to rappelling. And now several months later I've i...
