Re: Oldest active caches

... placed in Brooklyn. It was delisted by for reasons I'm not sure of but lives on as a terracache (although the current posted coords are about 1/4 mile away from the archived coords). I think the oldest active "real" (non-virtual) cache on Manhattan is another CN cache, ...

Good GPSr for Schools?

... this... My daughter's first grade class is doing a year-long unit studying Central Park, and I was discussing with the teachers some weeks ago about using GPS technology to enhance their experience. Not necessarily just for geocaching, but also to do things like (say) waymark points of interest ...

Re: Central Park asks for Geocache Removal

I found an old thread about problems with Central Park geocaches that seems to make it clear that the CO needs to be local. Well I'm glad this group has already solved that problem. I recently searched for a cache in California that ...

Re: Archivals vs. Retractions

... - I believe the caches placed on bridges were, but not the others. My recollection is that NY Admin reported getting a private email inquiring about the placement - but I didn't realize the CO himself requested that the caches be retracted. That makes me feel better about it.

May 2 - WWFM V (GC1M6E0)

I think it's too early to actually get May events listed on, but for those who like to think about these things ahead of time the next WWFM will be the first Saturday in May.

Re: Coin Poll

... try to advertise / pre-sell these coins outside of our forums, or if we want to scale back the project (maybe get a smaller run if we don't care about trackability / custom icon / custom name / etc.) or cancel it altogether. I have no problems going with "the will of the people" :) ...

Weird Publication Glitch

... up for a day, anyone who watched the cache in the interim got emailed the solution to the puzzle. Don't know that there's anything practical to do about this - you can't really control when the reviewer pushes the button on a cache. But thought it was an interesting-enough glitch for puzzle/multi ...

Re: Cache Placement Etiquette

I feel strongly enough about it that I have some stuff about using Google Maps in next week's article on "Placing Your First Cache". I suppose it really breaks down into two questions. One, should a cache owner error-check ...

Re: Metro GC Awards Categories

... Long Island, etc.) The Traditional-by-region idea is for a couple of reasons. One, to follow up on a conversation I had with Tatanka49 last year about a couple of caches he really liked that didn't necessarily fit in other categories. They weren't puzzles... they didn't have particularly amazing ...

Any Mavens interested in making a presentation?

Not sure if anyone here has heard of an event called "Hobby", but it's a monthly lecture series hosted by Harvest where 4 speakers chat about their hobbies for 5 minutes each (followed by a brief Q & A). There is an event on Tuesday, November 16th from 7-8pm and the organizers were ...

Re: May 29 - First Boat Out (GC2R4FY)

I wouldn't mind some clarity about what is and isn't okay for a geocaching event. It shouldn't be very complicated, but it seems like there is a lot of confusion on posting an event - 4quA5 hunt by gerkmax - a geocaching excursion isn't ...

DASH 5 is coming!

Wanted to let folks know about an event in NYC on May 18th called DASH. It's not specifically geocaching-related, but for those who like geo-puzzles I think it will be a lot of fun. And I think there will be a fair number of nearby geocachers ...
