Military Containers and Geocaching in NYC

... Network marketing stunt last year (arrests, fines, etc.): http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,249110,00.html I'm not afraid to admit I'm nervous about the implications for NYC caching in general. My (unsolicited) advice: Let's try to rotate out of military-style containers and use transparent ...

It must not be about the numbers...

My brother's cache just got its second find since 2003. It's a little hard to get to, so I'd expect the next smiley to come along in about 2012 or thereabouts... But the view is nice! Zeto Point Weirdly, both logs only have one find to their credit. But they each emailed my brother with ...

Re: It must not be about the numbers...

You may be on to something. Both finders were on Adak doing UXO work - disposing of unexploded ordinance left over from WWII. I don't think they found the cache by accident - I think it was more like what you were describing with the Antarctican scientists who have the equipment, and a lot of time t...

Re: November 8 - WWFM 4 (GC1GA3R)

That makes some sense. I don't have events on my notification list, and my notification radius is too tight for most events. I only found out about Paladin8's event the other week because Dooley and mmacgown both mentioned it to me in email as I was emailing them back and forth about caches they ...

Re: Geocache TV show

... activity. It would be very unfortunate to get shut down by the police department. Hmm. That's a pretty good point. We probably want to be careful about how caching in the city is depicted so that the anti-terrorism / bomb squad folks don't feel like they're getting their noses rubbed in about ...

Re: Pocket Query Tutorial?

This is a very, very good tutorial. If you have any questions about it or have troubles that the tutorial doesn't address, let me know: http://www.markwell.us/pq.htm Regarding never receiving the PQ's... Make sure that they aren't going to your spam folder. ...

Re: FTF Etiquette

... This was not a case of a naive CO, nor certainly of a naive searcher. It was at least four full city blocks away from the UN building, and about a block and a half away from anything that could possibly be considered UN Property. You couldn't even see the UN or any of the UN property because ...

Time Out New York article... from 2003

... and simply bought the back issues. Here are the scanned articles in case anyone is interested. Incidentally I exchanged a few emails with dboggny about the article and the cache (I wanted to make sure it was okay with him that I posted it here) - very nice guy. Turns out we're sort of the second ...

Re: Puzzle Preparedness

I also don't like any puzzle cache or even regular caches that require the use of the Internet to find answers. that's one of the things I LIKE about puzzle caches, being able to work on those puzzles on rainy days, sleepless nights, or even downtime at work keeps me connected to caching when ...

Re: Visiting from SC

Wow, that's nine months away! Talk about advance planning - I don't even know what I'm doing next weekend. Good suggestions by Gerk. One place to start might be the 2008 Metro NY award nominees - this bookmark list has 27 active / enabled ...

Re: The Congratulations Thread

Ha, thanks... I was reading about how someone stole the lid to the cache a couple of weeks ago and that the CO had said something along the lines of "well, it had a good run". Got me thinking that if I didn't get it soon, I'd have to trek through the jungles of Brazil for an APE cache!

Mammut caches in NYC

... BLAA, there was one in Long Beach too: http://basecamp.mammut.ch/de/shoe-chase/geocaches/where-shoreline-drives-you It's too bad we didn't know about these at the time - would have been fun to race for some high-end FTF prizes!

Re: Metro NY Calendar

... to help design the calendar (hopefully some with more artistic talent than me) please get in touch with me as well so that we can chat a bit about the project. I don't think it would be hard to put something together, and with no initial outlay it could be a painless way to get a nice set ...

Re: Caches disappearing

Apparently it went way beyond this one container. He had been stealing caches for years and was really prolific about it, and had really been frustrating the local hiders in a huge way. When the police finally did catch him at that park, his car had a whole bunch of other stolen ...
