Interested in finding an "unpublished" cache?

... pill canister. I realize you won't get official credit through Groundspeak, but I'm very curious to find out if what I think is a clever hide is actually quite mundane? The hint was: "How high is your reach?" It's a little wet around the GZ but the cache isn't in any water or submerged. ...

Re: Interested in finding an "unpublished" cache?

Actually I did look for it about 2 weeks ago and it was a DNF for me but I didn't post it in the log. I planned to go back and look again but my plans went awry. So I emailed the owner and asked her to check its status. I ...

Re: Responsible muggles

... mushrooms or moss or something along those lines (the memory, it fades with age) and stumbled across the ammo can (which was pretty well hidden actually). He signed the log, took nothing and left a union handbook. Nice to occasionally be reminded that not all muggles are destructive tornadoes.

Re: Responsible muggles

Actually reminds me of my favorite log ever. I wasn't lucky enough to stumble across it myself, but it still cracks me up. I've mailed it to a number of my non-geocaching friends. It spans these four photos: http://img.geocaching.com/cache/log/3f6024e7-8e40-48ff-b074-eccef2971374.jpg ...

Re: On Location NYC - A new geocache series in NYC

Hmmmm, I have just the location for a Sex in the City cache!!! EVF would you mind if I put one out? Actually, the On Location NYC series was woodstrider's brainchild - and she has explicitly encouraged other folks to contribute to the collection (and EVF has a great one ...

Archivals vs. Retractions

... or "You cannot see logs for unpublished listings." The finds still seem to exist in some way; of the four caches above I actually managed to find and log High in Morningside Park before it was retracted, and I'm still getting credit for the smiley. Does anyone know if ...

Re: Fear Archived

Actually, if someone wanted to adopt it, I think the admins would be willing to unarchive the cache, isn't that the usual policy (that a cache archived by the admin can be unarchived if you ask?). I don't know what the usual ...

Re: Not Signing the Logbook

... caches for physical / online log continuity, so keep that in mind. Even though I am strict with my own caching (I never claim a find unless I actually sign the log, no matter what the circumstances), I'm a bit of a softie for letting people play the game their own way. I have three kids! They ...

Re: Virtual Cache

... container. Typically, for a virtual cache you are looking for some sort of clue or information at the cache site that helps establish that you actually did visit. Most often, if you email that information to the cache owner you are allowed to log the cache as a find. Some virtuals ask that ...

Re: Underground Cache Question

... a bit of the bias that groundspeak has in terms of GPSr use. I've seen a number of references in the forums to the fact that while TPTB don't actually require a GPSr for *finding* a cache, they still require one for *hiding* a cache. I've never been sure about how that would be enforced. If ...

Re: hunter gtech - RETRACTED

... and the one Harry mentioned that was too close to the hidden final stage of another cache, those are the four that I was a spectator for. (I actually found and logged that last one - it shows up in my caching history, but I can't click through to the cache itself.) I'm aware of one other ...

Re: hunter gtech - RETRACTED

... The listing, Fats' profile, the whole shebang disappeared the day before I was going to look for it. His profile returned about a week later. Actually, High in Morningside Park wasn't a fats cache - it was by fatfredfreak as part of the "High in..." series. Incidentally, that's the ...

Re: Signing the logs

... of any physical cache so why shouldn't they use it. FWIW, there is some debate about the meaning of the above. The quote from the guidelines is actually taken out of context (it's referring to ALRs), and the stuff in Step 4 doesn't exactly read like rules (I rarely follow Item 5 - "Use ...

Re: Interesting news regarding Groundspeak alternatives...

the symbol looks like a "broken" version of the Groundspeak logo Interestingly enough, that's not actually a riff on the groundspeak logo - the logo I think you're thinking of is the public domain geocaching logo. There's an interesting story about it here: http://www.bytethebullet.com/geologo/ ...

Re: Interesting news regarding Groundspeak alternatives...

I think there was some fallout between Garmin and GC.com I don't know what's actually going on there, but sometimes I get the sense that groundspeak takes their status in the relationship between the company and geocachers a bit for granted. If they bring a similar ...
