Westside caching advice...

I'm planning on taking my geocaching scout troop on a day hike on November 19 and I was thinking about the caches along the west side from say 125th street south to perhaps 60th street or so. I see there are lots of caches but I have a question about walking--are there trails or so we have to walk a...

Re: Opinions on geocache hiding by Drat 19

I do agree with him on a lot of it and on his second one abut Gulf Coast hides. I could write one of those myself. I wish, though, that he used some other color than white on black--real hard on the eyes. So to make my own list--- The types of hides I dislike the most... 1. Tank caches (or railroad ...

Re: 2010 Metro GC Award Nominees!

I am so impressed by the listings! There has to be dozens of cachers on the list and many are newer players. We have certainly become an eclectic band! Congratulations to all nominees and thank-you to every one who enjoys and plays this game.

Re: Caches disappearing

Interesting article. I'm surprised the police actually took time out to go after a cache thief but I guess that's big news in Rochester. Sad how a guy with a good government job could get into so much trouble for playing a prank on one of us. And why would a serious cacher (premium) let a buddy use ...

Help Wanted Geocaching Camp

Hi all-- If you remember from my dinering event and on previous posts on this forum, I announced that GNYC would be doing a GC camp this summer. This is the official announcement for Geocaching week at Ten Mile River Scout camps this summer (August 14-20). TMR is located about 120 miles from NYC in ...

Re: WWFM VIII is back on June 4, 2011

I think Bronx/Upper Manhattan would be good. We did that one up by the dam in Westchester in the rain and had to deal with that very upset groundskeeper. Why not set it up Harry, Mark? I happen to be free on June 4 so if you need a hand, give a yell.

If you had a week to do geocaching....

As you may have heard, I am putting together a week of Geocaching at Ten Mile River Scout Camps this summer. The dates are August 14th to 20th. This is the first time that it is being done at any scout camp in the US as far as we know. I need ideas and inputs from the GC community. Below is a loose...

Re: January 6 - Dinering Event (GC2J771)

Great time was had by all. Lots of new faces. I counted 37 attendees. (I counted bodies not names in the log--such as Fred who was listed twice.) Pops diner had a great back room for us and a different variety on the menus. I think we found a new home for now. We have another whole dining room that ...

Re: Electricity and Caches

We have very few of these in Metro NY--thankfully. Some cities have what seems to be only LPC's. Las Vegas NV is a good example. I was in Richmond VA, Raleigh & Wilmington NC last month and of the 30 or so caches that I find, at least 10 were LPC's. They are so obvious, so lame. There is nothing...

Dinering from the Verb-6

So where are all the NYC cachers? We have plenty of folks coming from Suffolk County and Westchester, but very few from the local surrounding areas. This location has easy subway and bus connections in addition to its large parking lot. http://coord.info/GC2J771

Re: Do you think Opencaching is actually bad for Groundspeak

releasing an API in January?

API? Fill me in. I don't read the Groundspeak forums since they cut off my complaints about reviewers and teaching events.

Boy Scout Geocaching Merit Badge

The Boy Scouts of America have now published the long awaited merit badge book (now making the badge 'official'). A copy can be obtained from the scout stuff website. You do not have to be a member of BSA to order one. http://www.scoutstuff.org/BSASupply/ItemDetail.aspx?cat=01RTL&ctgy=PRODUCTS&a...

NY Times story

The long awaited GC story that was done at Marilyn's 101010 event will finally be printed this week... Hi, John: OK, so I've been told that the geocaching story I did with your help is going to appear in the paper Dec. 10 (or two months after 10/10/10, but who's counting). Just wanted to pass the wo...
