Re: How do you plan a CITO?

Whether we organized this illustrious group or not, I was thinking of doing a CITO. I have the contact info for Forest Park-, Queens -where I have 6 caches. The park is a 'dump' in areas. I might consider a picnic event in the spring as well and it might be a tie in. We can go anywhere, but I starte...

Re: Instructor Group (google group excerpt)

I've done three GC auctions with my church. We run a fun auction each spring. I had people pay $15 each to the church coffers so I could tramp around central Park with them and kids to find some caches and have a blast. I've done this twice. I also have a GC 102 auction event pending for some date i...

Re: Technical Stuff (google group excerpt)

I think that would be great. My sister (a librarian) tells me that Libraries have to give meeting space to community groups for events...it's in their charters or something. I never thought of using a library...most do have wireless. I think a Manhattan location would work. Easy to get to by Metro-N...

Another Tatanka49 Dinering Event

I'm thinking about another dinering event the Thursday before Good Friday. Same place. May or may not be a LHGC event. How's that as a date? I figure people MAY have Good Friday off.

Re: My first hide

Congratulations! It's a great feeling when you start getting hits. And there are too few in Flushing Meadow. That's a tough location unless you go micro since the park is well maintained and there are few hiding spots. I had a few there. I have just one left. Muggles is also a huge factor. I look fo...

Organizational Meeting nitty gritty

Good News---the restaurant can easily handle 30 people or so and they will set up the tables and chairs in a horseshoe formation for us. All that she asks is that I give her a relatively close number about an hour before. So please verify if you are coming or not by Saturday morning before noon if p...

Garmin 'H' series

I like my yellow e-trex's but everyone says they don't work in tree cover and have questionable accuracy. I agree to a point but 1,000 caches later I have no need for bells and whistles. I saw that they created the H series with better accuracy. I picked up a ET100H and have used it in Manhattan and...

Staten Island

Paulo and I did some caching on Staten Island this past weekend. Lots of nice caches, easy to get to (right up Hyland Blvd) and even some earth caches. But no one caches there! We hit caches that were untouched (not even a DNF) since before the summer. So much for recruiting SI cachers to our happy ...

Re: Staten Island

A biking event. Wow...I like it! I've never seen anything like that on any of the event postings. And now you will have a 'support' group...maybe setting up a lunch at a park along the way, or something.

Re: Staten Island

OK. so you finds a nice park in SI--roughly in the lower half of the island...there are a few units of the NPS there. You set a date and a time --say 12-4 pm. You advertise it as a pot-luck picnic. That gets the people there. On the original cache request, you mention that there are lots of caches i...

Organizational Meeting--Final details

This has gotten to be huge! We are looking at 30-40 people. :o I have to now limit the people attending and alas, no kids, :( since there are no more seats. In the future, we will have to look for a restaurant, facility with a party room or a place where we can do a pot-luck. The once place that I h...

Transporation

An out growth from the meeting...and perhaps something that Paul needs to address in the Forum as a separate subject. If you are planning on going caching and you have room in your car for a few bodies, or if you would really like to go out with another cacher one day, we could almost have a bulleti...

Possible events

We want to kick this organization off with a biggie--you know, maybe 100 people. Let's look to the spring..like May or June. Start looking for a place in your respective area. A park setting would be good. Picnic area, playground, perhaps some recreation equipment, nearby caches, parking and relativ...

Saturday, February 2

I'll start this off. I would like to go back to Staten Island. One seat is reserved for Paulo or a newbie (and I have many on that list) The other two are up for grabs. Figure arrival is Staten Island around 10 and caching to about 4 (when traffic starts getting heavy). I live in Queens but can do a...
